Hydraulic oils

Hydraulic oils from FRAGOL, classified according to DIN 51524 (Part 1-3), are used to transfer energy in hydraulic systems and are used to control hydraulic components in many power units.

FRAGOL hydraulic oils are characterised by good lubricating properties, high resistance to ageing and high wetting and adhesion properties. To achieve this, they require a high flash point and a low pour point.

FRAGOL HFDU BIO 68

This is just one example from our hydraulic oil product range – all of which have demonstrated long-term reliability in real-world applications. It stands as a representative of our broad portfolio, which we continuously refine and expand. In line with FRAGOL’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art, high-performance, and application-driven solutions.

Readily biodegradable and fire-resistant hydraulic oil based on polyol esters, with a biodegradability of 78% according to OECD 301 B. It is the optimal choice for applications with pressures of up to 1,000 bar – including in the steel and foundry industries. Suitable for use within a temperature range of –10 to +100 °C.

Selection criteria for hydraulic oils are:

  • System design (piston pump, vane pump)
  • Need for oxidation resistance (piston pump) and wear resistance (vane pump)
  • Ambient and operating temperatures
  • Viscosity requirements, including viscosity index
  • Compatibility requirements of the fluid with existing seals
  • Cleanliness and detergency requirements for contamination control
  • Deaeration and foaming requirements
  • Thermal transfer properties for heat dissipation
  • Rust protection for surfaces
  • Protection against varnish formation
  • Special requirements such as H1 registration (hydraulic oils for food industry)

Petroleum-based, water-based and synthetic hydraulic fluids are the three most common types available on the market today.

Our synthetic fluids offer excellent lubrication properties in hydraulic applications across most industries. They are formulated to perform with future trends in mind, including: smaller systems, reduced cycle times, higher temperatures, higher pressures, extended service life, water tolerance and noise limitations.

For applications requiring flame-retardant hydraulic fluids, FRAGOL also offers HFC (water/glycol) and HFDU (polyol ester) water-based fluids. In Germany, for example, FRAGOL has launched Hydrolub 125 G, the first flame-retardant hydraulic fluid on the market.

After determining the system parameters, the lubrication engineer (or tribologist) can use different lubricant compositions to select a lubricant that optimises the performance of the application. Since each chemical composition has its own advantages and disadvantages, selecting the right composition is critical to meeting the tribological system parameters.
